CRL (Crown to Rump Length) for the Dating Scan ladies

It is usually part of an assessment called combined first trimester screening. Combined first trimester screening Combined first trimester screening assesses the risk for your baby having certain chromosomal abnormalities trisomy 13, 18 and This testing combines the nuchal translucency ultrasound with specific blood tests. Nuchal translucency ultrasound alone can also provide this risk assessment, but it is not as accurate as combined first trimester screening. Combined first trimester screening is a non-invasive way of assessing your risk, which means it does not involve putting needles into the placenta or amniotic sac, as happens with CVS and amniocentesis. This means that combined first trimester screening simply tells us if your risk is low or high. For example, it tells us whether your baby has a low risk of having trisomy 13, 18 or 21, or whether your baby has a high risk of having trisomy 13, 18 or

Thanks so much for your prompt responses! Yes I’m trying to remain positive, i’m one of those people that google everything and i’ve read so many negative stories regarding this. I’ll know for certain on Friday when I have the second blood test – if my hcg levels haven’t significantly increased then it will mean the pregnancy isn’t ‘viable’. What a horrible word! I will keep you posted on how things go, thanks again smile Do NOT google!! Posted Tuesday 04 December I don’t have a ‘normal’ cycle length so lmp is useless for me with working out how far along I am in pregnancy.

I didn’t know about dating scans with my DD and my dr went by lmp even though I told him I didn’t have a normal cycle. My first scan wasn’t until I was ’19 weeks’ according to lmp and at that scan they said I was only 14 weeks 5 days, which matched much better with when I thought I’d fallen pregnant knowing my cycle lengths. Thankfully there was a clear heartbeat or I probably would have freaked out. With both DS and this pregnancy my cycles were shorter but still about 6 weeks.

Fortunately I’d learnt from my experience with DD and expected my dates to be at least 2 weeks out from what the lmp said. I also knew to ask for a dating scan to confirm how far along I was.

The SFH method classified as term deliveries a slightly higher percentage of deliveries also classified as term deliveries by the US method than the LMP method Discussion Ultrasound equipment is not always available in low-resource countries and alternate methods such as LMP and SFH are used to determine GA and predict the date of delivery. Our study compared these 2 methods with the US method, which is considered the gold standard.

We found significant differences in the mean GA estimates obtained by the 3 methods for Pakistani women between 20 and 26 weeks of pregnancy. Less than one-third of the deliveries occurred within 1 week of the date of delivery predicted by each method, but the US method was the most accurate. Over prediction, or a delivery occurring 1 week or more after the predicted date, was common with the 3 methods and was similar for the LMP and SFH methods.

Under prediction, or a delivery occurring 1 week or more before the predicted date, occurred the most often with the US method and was also similar for the LMP and SFH methods. Other studies from low- and high-resource countries have reported similar results [ 1 , 15 , 22 , 23 , 24 ]. Finally, we evaluated the percentages of deliveries predicted as preterm, term, and post-term by the SFH and LMP methods using as reference the values obtained by the US method.

Practical Obstetrical Ultrasound, p Rockville, MD, Aspen, Averaging the gestational ages derived from two or more measurements has been shown to be more accurate than using any single parameter. Because of the greater accuracy of the early study, ultrasound examinations subsequent to an early study should not be used to revise the estimated date of confinement EDC , but rather should be used as a measure of the quality of fetal growth between the two studies.

Similarly, it is not appropriate to revise an EDC on the basis of an ultrasound examination if the patient’s menstrual dates are within the range of error of the ultrasound method. If significant discrepancy is seen between two ultrasonographically measured fetal dimensions more than a 2-week difference , then the ultrasonographer must consider the possibility of an error in measurement technique. If a critical reevaluation reveals no error, then asymmetry in fetal growth may be present.

Growth asymmetry may occur as a result of physiologic alteration in fetal head shape brachycephaly or dolichocephaly or in association with intrauterine growth restriction IUGR , macrosomia, or a fetal anomaly.
